Avoid Bad Egg & Cheat Crashes on MyBoy! & John GBA — Pokémon Unbound

Android GBA emulators MyBoy! and John GBA often run into fatal exceptions when using Action Replay or GameShark cheat codes because Unbound includes dynamic pointer allocation and a dynamic check engine.

1. Cheat Code Crashing & Bad Eggs

Traditional codes that inject items directly into PC storage (e.g., modifying offset 0203B3DC) trigger checksum errors. When you open the PC to withdraw these items, the game crashes instantly. Furthermore, wildcard wild encounter codes corrupt RAM pointer 0202404C, causing captured Pokémon to mutate into Bad Eggs. These Bad Eggs cannot be deleted, multiply across PC boxes, and corrupt the entire save file.

2. The Backpack First Slot Modifier Workflow

To safely bypass the anti-cheat detection, use the "First Slot Modifier" method which replaces an item in your bag temporarily rather than injecting static PC addresses:

  1. Go to a Pokémart and buy 99x of a cheap consumable (like Antidote or Potion).
  2. Open your Bag, select the bought item, and move it to the very first slot of the Items page.
  3. Go to your emulator's Cheat menu, add a new cheat, and input the master control code as Codebreaker type:
    000014D1 000A
  4. Create a second cheat entry (Type: Codebreaker) with the item replacement code. For example, to convert the first slot item into Rare Candies:
    4203BB22 03E7 00000004 0004
    4203BB20 0044 00010001 0004
  5. Enable both codes, return to the game, open your Bag, and verify the Antidote turned into 999x Rare Candies.
  6. CRITICAL STEP: Immediately go back to the Cheat menu and delete/disable both cheat codes.
  7. Perform an in-game save, fully exit the emulator, clear background app processes, and restart the emulator. This resets the RAM checksum pointer.

If you need complex modifications, avoid cheat codes entirely and use the online browser-based save editor PUSE (Pokemon Unbound Save Editor).
